Today is Full Moon Day of Thadingyut in Myanmar. People celebrate the anniversary of Buddha return from celestial abode where he taught a celestial who had been his mother in previous life. Before the full moon day, on the day itself and a day after full moon day, every Buddhists through out the country decorate their home by lightening the candles, lantern as the sign of welcoming Buddha back to human abode.
Moreover, as tradition, people pay homage to elderly among relatives and teachers during Thadingyut festival. For the kids, Thadingyut is quite a pleasurable moment since there are 10 days long of school holidays and they get the pocket money as they pay homage to elderly.
There are usually Pagoda festivals during Thadingyut and Shwedagon Pagoda is always too crowded during Thadingyut period. In certain roads, there the street markets which run only three days of Thadingyut where you can buy tiny cute stuffs and several Myanmar traditional snacks.
